Hanshi Kinjo Hiroshi has passed away
We were all very sad to receive the news of Hanshi Kinjo Hiroshi’s passing on October 13, 2013.
He actually passed away on October 10, 2013 but his wishes were to keep the news of his passing private until after his immediate family buried him so as not to create inconvenience for others; even in death his modesty says so much about the true spirit of our art.
With an impeccable lineage of teachers [Hanashiro Chomo, Gusukuma Shimpan, Tokuda Ambun, Oshiro Chojo and Itosu Ankoh who preceded them, and his master, Matsumura Sokon – our tradition’s most visible pioneer] the name Kinjo Hiroshi [1919-2013] and his legacy will never be forgotten. I am confident it will live on in the hearts and minds of the many people his wise lessons, kind heart and vibrant spirit touched … not just in Japan but the world over.
Sympathy and deepest condolences to the Kinjo family and to Hanshi Patrick McCarthy who considered Hanshi Kinjo as his teacher.
